With summer upon us and we head into the busiest time of the year for volunteer surf lifesavers, this provides the opportunity for our partner Surf Life Saving Australia to highlight the critical importance of water safety, as well as promote key safety messages to ultimately help to reduce drowning deaths and injuries across the country.
With our borders opening up and Australians now thinking about their next holiday with family and friends, there has never been a more important time for awareness and vigilance around the water.
WE WANT ALL AUSTRALIANS TO TAKE SIMPLE ACTIONS LIKE:

swim at a patrolled location between the red and yellow flags

always supervise children on, in and around water

avoid alcohol and drugs when on or around water

wear a lifejacket while boating, rock fishing and using watercraft
THESE ARE ALL SIMPLE THINGS THAT CAN BE DONE TO
MINIMISE THE DANGER OF DROWNING THIS SUMMER.
Last year people 136 drowned along the Australian coast, with 49 or more that one-third of these occurring during summer.
We encourage all Australian’s to be aware of and share these simple messages.
